Find existing categories
Starting points
The Filtered categories widget in Admin dashboard
The Filtered categories widget might be the fastest way to find a category. The widget provides several links which open the list of categories already pre-filtered according to potentially useful criteria.
You can also use the link at the bottom of the widget to directly open the category tree with no filtering.
Category tree in the Category administration page.
Switch to the mode. The right-hand part of the window displays a category tree. In its default form, the tree displays all shop categories in a hierarchical manner reflecting the assignment of categories to category levels, thus providing an overview of the current structure of categories. Categories can also be displayed in a list form providing the search and filter functionality.
Category tree provides the following search-and-find tools:
Sorting
Sorting is available when categories are displayed as a list, i.e. when searching and/or filtering is applied.
Apply a suitable filter or search term (see below). The category tree transform into a list.
Hint: If you want to sort an unfiltered list, specify filtering by two complementary values, e.g. check both and .
Click the drop down at the top right of the list and select a sorting mode: sorting by category , sorting by category .
Filtering
Click at the top right of the list.
The Filter categories dialog gets displayed at the right of the window. Select values for one or more filtering attributes:
Status - choose to include only categories which are active or inactive
Recommendation status - choose to include only recommended categories or categories not marked as recommended.
Visibility - choose to include only categories which are visible or invisible.
Note: A category becomes invisible if it does not contain any active offers (i.e. it is either a 3rd level category with no active offers or a higher level category whose 3rd level subcategories contain no active offers).
Level - filter categories according to their level (top level, 2nd level, 3rd level).
You might, for example, want to see a list of all existing 3rd level categories.
Availability - filter categories according to their availability.
To all roles and users - include categories whose availability is not limited
To specified user(s) only - include categories whose availability is limited to certain users
To specified user role(s) only - include categories whose availability is limited to certain user roles
Note that it is not possible to filter categories by their availability to specific users or user roles.
Click . The Filter categories dialog closes and the list of categories is filtered according to the specified criteria.
When the list is filtered, the categories count displays a filtered / unfiltered number of categories ratio. Filtering is also indicated by the number of applied filtering criteria being displayed next to the Show filter button.
To see or modify the filter criteria, click the Show filter button to open the Filter categories dialog again,
Click at the top right of the offer list to clear the filtering and display an unfiltered category tree again.
Note: If only one filtering criteria is currently used, the reset button is labelled Clear filter.
Note that the current filter setup is reflected in the URL. This can be used to bookmark the filter or share it with other colleagues working with the application.
Searching
Type one or more search terms in the search box at the top of the category tree or list.
Category names are searched, the search is performed in the OR fashion.
Press to initiate the search.
Click the cross symbol at the right of the search field to clear the search. If no additional filtering is applied, the list of categories turns into a category tree again.
Searching and filtering
A combination of searching and filtering can, of course, be used. In such case, specific controls for clearing the search and/or filter are provided:
Use Clear filter (or Clear all filters) to clear filtering only. Searching is still applied and categories remain displayed in a list form.
Click the cross symbol at the right of the search field to clear the search. Filtering is still applied and categories remain displayed in a list form.
Use Clear filter and search (or Clear filters and search) to cancel both searching and filtering. An unfiltered category tree gets displayed.
